Description:

  • summary: The global operational Real-Time Ocean Forecast System (Global RTOFS) at the National Centers for Environmental Prediction is based on an eddy resolving 1/12° global HYCOM (HYbrid Coordinates Ocean Model) and is part of a larger national baone capability of ocean modeling at the National Weather Service in a strong partnership with the US Navy. The model is run once a day, completing at about 1700Z. Each run starts with a 24 hr hindcast and produces ocean surface forecasts every hour and full volume forecasts every 6 hours out to 192 hours. This dataset contains an experimental version of RTOFS 2.3 and the first 4 two dimensional surface field forecasts for each day's model run for the US East Coast region.

  • comment: This experimental dataset contains the two-dimensional surface fields (f006, f012_hrly, f018_hrly, f024_hrly) for each day's model run for the Atlantic/US East Coast region. This data is scraped daily by the Center for Ocean Observing Leadership (RUCOOL) at Rutgers University.
